13th November 2010, Arnolfini, Bristol.

You and Your Work (Y&YW) is back this winter, with an even bigger and more adventurous programme of live and mediated performance works, from both national and international artists. In collaboration with Arnolfini, the festival will enfold on the 13th of November, from 4.00-10.30pm, throughout the 2nd floor and café/bar.

Drawing upon the theme of ‘Transient Living’, Y&YW8 will present an exciting mix of contemporary live performance, intervention, installation, live music and space for discussion.

The festival will showcase four local community-based art projects, commissioned in partnership between Y&YW, Arnolfini and Groundwork South West, alongside five additional selected performance works, from highly talented emerging artists. In anticipation of YaYW8, each commissioned project will also have it’s own local satellite event.

Commissioned artists will include:

Kate Rowles ‘Through My Own Eyes’

Commissioned Artist filmmaker, Kate Rowles with participants from Lincoln Gardens (a sheltered housing scheme for older people) and Travelling Light Theatre Company (a youth theatre group) will present ‘Through My Own Eyes’. This is a series of highly personal video works, which explore key identity shifts during the ageing process. An additional discussion about the project with the artist and participants, will take place at 4.45pm. Arrive early, as spaces will be limited!

Neil Callaghan and Simone Kenyon ‘The Museum of Floating Objects’

Commissioned performance duo, Neil Callaghan and Simone Kenyon will be presenting ‘The Museum of Floating Objects’, a temporary museum and map made up of significant objects donated by those living afloat in Bristol Harbour. At the beginning of the project, the artists will build a Currah (a small fishing vessel made from willow and hide) in the Bristol boat yard, to travel across the marina and meet local boat dwellers.

Liz Clarke 'Sedimentary'

Commissioned live artist, Liz Clarke with participants from 1625 Independent People (a youth housing project), will be presenting performances, interventions and provocations with opportunity for interaction and debate. The work will be a culmination of a process exploring ‘Identity and the Individual’ and ‘Ownership of Spaces’.

Rhiannon Chaloner 'Civis Europeus Sum'

Commissioned visual artist and performer, Rhiannon Chaloner along with four members of the Bristol Roma community, will be presenting a short film/video which explores the permeability of cultural traditions, travelling and ‘making home’. An additional discussion about the project with the artist and participants, will take place at 5.15pm. Arrive early, as spaces will be limited

As well as the four commissioned projects, Y&YW8 has invited the following artists:

Malcolm Whittaker with ‘A Lover’s Discourse

Tania El Khoury with ‘Jarideh’

Katherina Radeva with ‘Fallen Fruit- now you are here- now you are gone’

Saffy Setohy and Reynir Hutber with ‘Towards Stillness’

Kings of England with “I Belong to This Band!”

Leading up to the platform and on the day, we hope to create a wider exposure of and open up discussion around performance-based/socially engaged arts practice; between artists, local communities, audiences and gallery spaces.

Part of this discussion will be explored on our 'Discussion Forum' page, so please feel free to add your comments.

Y&YW8 is funded and supported by Arts Council England, Arnolfini, Groundwork South West and Quartet Community Foundation’s Grassroots Grant.
